I don’t want to make you feel bad or anything, but this lovely family below….they scheduled their Christmas session in June. Yeah…June. They brought all the appropriate accessories to their session and put them on with the sun cooking outside…what a smart family! They’ve been done with their holiday cards for months now. See…you need to get in asap. Let’s get it done!
Christmas Mini Sessions
I have Christmas-y type props in the studio, but I know those are not everyone’s cup of tea. So no worries, we can go super simple, or prop it up…it’s your choice. With mini sessions, you will pick one background that you like, and that best compliments your clothing choices. Mini sessions typically produce 10-15 images for you to choose from.
The most common question I get when people schedule a family photo session is, “What should we wear?” Thank goodness for Pinterest! You can go onto Pinterest yourself and search Family Clothing for Portrait Session and you will find a plethora of ideas. Here’s a Pinterest board I quickly created to give you some ideas. The basic idea is to take the outfits you are thinking of for your family, lay them all out on a bed together, imagine that one person could wear everything at once. Would they look cohesive? Is there something that clashes, or stands out in a bad way? Another idea is to start with one item…maybe the adorable dress you have for your daughter, then build from that piece. Contact me if you need more ideas or help.
One of my favorite types of photography session is sitter portraits! Sitters are babies typically between 5-8 months old. The ideal stage to do these portraits is when your baby is sitting up unaided, but not yet crawling. Of course, these sessions can be done once baby starts crawling, in that case, mom and/or dad gets a workout, chasing the little one around. It’s a hoot!
Little Miss Audrie was at the perfect age for her portraits. And oh my goodness…such beautiful blue eyes. It’s always hard to decide between color and black and white because of this girls eyes. But what can I say, I’m a sucker for black and white.
Audrie kept trying to fly during our session…you can do it girl!
I’m so thankful that this family ever walked into my studio. They bring so much joy (and energy) with them when they come. Sitter sessions can often be done as a mini session…and I am never opposed to the whole family jumping in for a few portraits. In fact…I will typically push mom and dad into a few pictures, even if they were thinking they might not have any family portraits. Like I always say, you don’t have to buy the portraits, but if you don’t take them, you will never have the choice.
Miss Audrie was just about done…
But we talked here into a few more portraits, and I am so glad we did. Just look at that gorgeous toothless grin!
How old is your little one? Is it time for some sitter portraits? Capture your little sweetie before they crawl away…

Here’s another beautiful mother to be who opted to take advantage of a complimentary mini maternity session with her little ones infant portraits. And why not!? It’s complimentary! A lot of clients worry that they just won’t like any of the maternity portraits (it’s never happened by the way….) and I always just remind them, you only buy the photographs you like, so no worries!
Now…let’s move on to sweet Kylie. What a precious little bundle of baby! She is the younger sister to two fabulous big brothers, Tyler and Nathan. And I am honored to have had the opportunity to photograph all three of these little ones as newborns. Yes, I am just that lucky. Thank you John and Carrie for trusting me with these fleeting moments.
Many clients don’t know that your maternity session (mini and full) and your newborn session can include older siblings. Of course we want to capture the entire family in photos like these! For a newborn appointment, I recommend bringing the whole family in two cars, or having someone like grandma come along. This way, we can photograph the whole family, then sibling shots and then we can have older siblings head home with grandma (or dad) so we can focus on just baby without any stress or extra noise. A perfect way to capture all the images you want!
Another question I hear all the time….do I need to bring my own props and blankets? Well…you can, but you don’t need to. The studio is choked full of hats, wraps and props for baby. And lots of dresses and wraps for mama too! More information on the details page here.
