Jacob – 16 days – newborn photography

Here are the promised photographs from baby Jacob’s newborn photography session!  What a wonderful family that I have had the joy of working with for four babies now!  John and Carrie are just delightful and their troupe is adorable.  Thank you for choosing Barefoot Photography!

I love these two photos of all the kiddos together.  It isn’t easy to wrangle 4 at these ages…kudos to John and Carrie who do it every day.

Newborn Photography –

Many times people will ask if they need to bring their own props and clothing, and while I encourage my clients to bring anything they would like to a maternity or a newborn photography appointment, I have many many things in the studio for my clients to use as well.  Dresses and wraps for mom, lots and lots of props for babies, and cute little things like this blue little outfit for newborns.

Ack!  Eyes are so difficult to control in the beginning!  Don’t worry Jacob, you are adorable no matter what.

This is one of my new props, and it is quite unique.  It is real bark, from a real tree.  I found it and decided it would make a fabulous prop.  Dried it out, made some repairs, made sure it would be safe and comfortable…and voila!  Add cute baby and you are good to go!

I love this sweet little stretch!  Look at that face…so many times I get the babies into position and then they take over and so something cuter than I could have planned.

Boaz, Amaryah and Shilo with big sister Lael

Prepare yourself for sweetness overload from these newborn triplet portraits!  I recently had put out the word that I was looking for newborn triplet models.  Now while these little ones are quite as young as I was looking for, I am so glad that their (AMAZING) mama Hope and I gave it a try anyway.  They were fabulous little models!  They gave me smiles and eye contact while they were awake, and then…they all fell asleep…AT THE SAME TIME.  I worked quickly and we got the cutest portraits!  Just precious!   And big sister was such a sweetheart, so helpful and loving.  She loves to hug her babies!

I mean, look at them!  Those eyes, those smiles…they are such sweet little bundles!

Seriously!?  Does this woman look like she carried triplets?!  She’s incredible, and not just because she looks like someone else carried those babies.  She is on…all the time.  Three babies at once…with a two year old.  I don’t know how she does it and still looks so fabulous, so calm and so loving.  Beautiful motherhood!

Newborn Triplet Portraits

Typically, I recommend bringing newborns into the studio for their portraits around 7-10 days.  Now with multiples, that isn’t always possible because they often need extended care in the nicu.  Does that mean you have missed your window to have newborn portraits done?  Absolutely not!  While the session might take a little longer, or maybe they won’t be quite as squishy, as you can see, we can still capture beautiful portraits even if your babies are older.  Contact Kimberly today to discuss your portrait needs.

I love how Shilo decided to have a peek around here…just keeping tabs on that photographer while her siblings rest.

I had decided that I wanted to unwrap them for a few more shots, one by one they woke up and looked at me like I was nuts for interrupting their naptime.  But what a sweet portrait of them all bundled up together!

Flashback Friday – Maternity and Newborn

A gorgeous Flashback Friday for you all!  This family is an absolute delight to photograph.  Not only are the beautiful…they are so much fun!  We did their first daughter’s maternity and newborn session and I was delighted when they returned for their second daughter’s session.  And could big sister BE any cuter?   I love the simplicity of the clothes they chose for their session.  One of the most common questions I get is, “What should we wear?”  The answer is almost always the same…”SIMPLE is better!”  Simple clothes are great because they are just following a trend that is hot now and 8 years from now my clients will regret.  These are portraits that will stand the test of time.  When these darling girls grow up, they won’t look back and say, what were mom and dad thinking!?  That is one of the goals of my photography…to create maternity and newborn portraits that will last for generations!Maternity and Newborn Maternity and Newborn Maternity and Newborn Maternity and Newborn Maternity and Newborn Maternity and Newborn Maternity and Newborn

Beautiful baby sister arrived!  And I just love this portrait of her with her adoring big sister.  So precious!  She’s already smitten…that is clear!  I am thrilled when families come all together for the newborn portrait session.  Capturing these moments when they are so little is priceless!  I know…mine are growing so fast!

Ryler – 10 days – Family Portrait

One of the most important photos I capture while photographing a newborn is the family portrait.  Mom and dad with their brand new little bundle of joy.  Ryler and his parents, Tyler and Rachel, made my job very easy!  This is just one of many family portraits that we captured during Ryler’s session.  I know a lot of parents think maybe they’ll pass on the family portrait, the session is all about the baby.  But I always encourage my clients to get in front of the camera for a few photographs.  It’s not a moment that you can capture even just a few months down the road.  They are this little for only so long.  A common question I get is what to wear for that all important family photo.  Simple is best!  Stick with solid, neutral colors to capture a portrait that will last a lifetime.

Newborn Props

Another question I often get during a newborn portrait session is, where do you get all of your props.  For those of you who have been to my studio, you know, I have a lot of props for babies.  Most of my props have come from years of searching.  Lots of time spent wandering the aisles of antique shops asking one question…”would a newborn fit in that?”  I also have a lot of clothing for babies…about half of these have come from my own hands (they like to stay busy).  I also purchase from vendors on sites like Etsy.  This provides my clients with a plethora of options to fit their style and wishes.

I also like to give my clients a lot of options with their images.  For example…we did a wide shot capturing the fur around and the entire antique box Mr. Ryler was sweetly resting in, but then we also moved in close to capture the sweet details, like his sweet little lips and fingers.  There will often be similar images like this during a session, close and far away, straight on and from above.  More often than not, my clients end up with both!

Newborn Portraits: Riley’s newborn session

Warning: Cuteness overload.  Riley’s newborn portraits are just so precious!  There were so many adorable images I just couldn’t narrow them down.  And little miss Riley was a unique little gal because she actually really liked all of the props we used.  Typically, during a newborn photo shoot, I have parents pick their favorite props, then put them in order.  I warn them that we will most likely not get a chance to use all the props.  We will use their favorite ones first and stop when baby says enough is enough.  But precious Riley slept so peacefully, we got them all!  So sit back and enjoy the sweet bundle that is Riley!

Check out my new birch bed!  I have been planning this bed for a long time now and I finally had enough birch branches to make it.  It is perfectly sized for a newborn portrait session, but thanks to its sturdiness, this is a photography prop that can follow your little one through their first year!  (I know it’s strong because I stood on it before I took it to the studio…all good!)

Newborn Photography

Barefoot Photography offers a number of different backgrounds and floor options so that your baby photos are unique and varied.  Not too mention shelves and shelves of baby sized props, drawers of hats and tiny pants, and blankets and wraps galore!  You are welcome to bring anything you would like to your newborn appointment, but you don’t have too!  There is plenty of all that we need on hand at the studio.

See what I mean?!  How can you pick a favorite?  Riley was such a fabulous model…and she had the most direct gaze.

I love newborn portraits with tiny baby girls protected in their daddy’s hands.
