Audrey – One Year

I’m sure some of you will recognize this little beauty who came to see me for her one year portraits.  I have photographed Audrey and her big brother Aaron since they were both “womb side”.  What a joy it has been to watch them grow.  When Audrey came in for her one year session, let’s just say, she wasn’t too thrilled with the idea.  Many times, parents will stress during the portrait session, worrying that we aren’t “getting anything good”.  But 99% of the time, that is just not the case.  You see these kiddos like to throw out gems like this first image amid the frowns or tears, and if your timing is right, you capture it!  My clients are often times pleasantly surprised at the results.

One Year Portraits

What fabulous moments can you capture with one year portraits?  Well, often times we capture baby’s just starting to stand up.  Here’s a moment we tried and tried to capture and thankfully we did!  Audrie standing on her own!  Many of my clients also choose to do a “cake smash” at the end of their one year session…sometimes baby looooves the cake, other times not so much.  Either way, it makes for some adorable portraits.

And of course, no baby session would be complete without tears.  HA!  Sort of joking…but it is true.  Tears often fall…let’s face it, their babies!  But oh so precious…big brother comforting little sister.  But what can you do when your comforting fails?  I’m with Aaron here…what are you going to do?

Colette with Pearl and Vedder – Mommy and Me Session

Get ready for an overshare.  I can’t help myself!!  Check out this adorable Mommy and Me Session.  Colette came in without daddy for this one…not that we don’t adore daddy!  (Don’t worry Gerrit, you are adored!)  But sometimes, it’s precious to capture a mommy with her little ones.  Just to cherish that sweet connection, that bond.  And while we were at it, of course we threw in a few sibling shots and two year birthday shots.  (Remember that whole, “I can’t help myself” dealio?)  How could I resist?  Pearl and Vedder are so adorable!!

Oh…hey!  Did you know that Barefoot Photography is F.I.N.A.L.L.Y on Instagram?  It’s true!  Follow me here.

Oh my squishy butt!  Just look at this chunk!  I think Colette is leaning here a bit, which is understandable, he’s such a big boy!  He was also getting a little sleepy here, which made the snuggles all the sweeter.

Mommy and Me Session

My favorite of baby Vedder.  I just love the look in his eyes.  Safe and sound in his mommy’s arms.  Perfection!

Mommy and Me Session

I love all of these photos…but these have to be my favorite!  I asked Pearl how old she was and this was her response.  I love the little thoughtful tongue as she tries to figure out how to get her fingers to do her bidding.  So cute!

Yes she is two years old and just as cute as can be.  Beautiful Pearl!  With her super cute Mickey and Minnie shoes!  I’m not a big shoe fan (obviously) but if you have to wear shoes, I guess they should have Mickey and Minnie on them.

Wrangling a two year old and trying to keep her curls straight while you put a cute clip in with a crying baby on your lap…all while looking gorgeous yourself.  Ahhh…motherhood!  It is beautiful in all it’s moments…from the snuggles to the struggles.  Fight the good fight mommas!  You are amazing!

Ryler – 10 days – Family Portrait

One of the most important photos I capture while photographing a newborn is the family portrait.  Mom and dad with their brand new little bundle of joy.  Ryler and his parents, Tyler and Rachel, made my job very easy!  This is just one of many family portraits that we captured during Ryler’s session.  I know a lot of parents think maybe they’ll pass on the family portrait, the session is all about the baby.  But I always encourage my clients to get in front of the camera for a few photographs.  It’s not a moment that you can capture even just a few months down the road.  They are this little for only so long.  A common question I get is what to wear for that all important family photo.  Simple is best!  Stick with solid, neutral colors to capture a portrait that will last a lifetime.

Newborn Props

Another question I often get during a newborn portrait session is, where do you get all of your props.  For those of you who have been to my studio, you know, I have a lot of props for babies.  Most of my props have come from years of searching.  Lots of time spent wandering the aisles of antique shops asking one question…”would a newborn fit in that?”  I also have a lot of clothing for babies…about half of these have come from my own hands (they like to stay busy).  I also purchase from vendors on sites like Etsy.  This provides my clients with a plethora of options to fit their style and wishes.

I also like to give my clients a lot of options with their images.  For example…we did a wide shot capturing the fur around and the entire antique box Mr. Ryler was sweetly resting in, but then we also moved in close to capture the sweet details, like his sweet little lips and fingers.  There will often be similar images like this during a session, close and far away, straight on and from above.  More often than not, my clients end up with both!

Jeanette – Six Months – Portland Photographer

Meet little Miss Jeanette, or Netty – the cutest little nickname ever.  Netty came to see me with her family…mom, dad and her two big brothers, who happen to have 4 paws.  I love when families bring their dogs into the studio for a family portrait session!  She was all smiles, and like my middle daughter, the happier she was, the wider her mouth was.  HA!  Such joy.  Netty was an absolute pleasure to photograph.  Are you looking for a Portland photographer for your baby or family sessions?  I would be happy to meet with you for a pre-consultation, so give me a call or send me an email.  But enough about that…let’s enjoy some really big smiles!

If you have a pet that you would like to join in for family portraits, please do not hesitate to ask.  I can’t promise to make them smile, but I’ll do my best!  The hardest part is getting them to sit still…but once we get that, getting them to look is no trouble.  And look at little Netty here with her boys!  So precious…an wonderful memory!

Faine – 6 days – Newborn Photography

Newborn PhotographerNewborn Photographer

Are you in the process of looking for a newborn photographer?  It’s not an easy job!  There are a lot of photographers out there these days.  Barefoot Photography offers a pre-consultation if you are interested.  A chance to meet your photographer, check out the studio and see all the props, wraps, hats and numerous other items ready to make a perfect session for you and your growing family.

Faine and his family came to see me at the studio when he was just 6 days old.  He was a wonderful little model.  He slept wonderfully and still gave us some open eyes photos too!  I love this last picture of him just chillin’ out.

One of the most important portraits for each family is the FAMILY photo!  Most of the time when people come to the studio with older kids, it’s a good idea to have someone on hand who can take the older siblings home if needed.  Sometimes it takes a long time for brand new babies to get settled into a deep sleep and it can get pretty boring sometimes when your only 2 years old.  So we focus on family and sibling images first, and save the portraits of the baby by themselves for later.

Family Photographer

Big brother Blel did such a fabulous job!  He did just what we asked and held baby Faine like a pro.  And I love to get individual shots with mom and dad snuggling the precious little bundle!  I think this is especially important for second and third babies.  They grow up with their older sibling in all their photos…let’s capture some of the alone with mom and dad!

Oh my goodness, I just love this black and white shot of Blel looking at Faine.  So precious!

Sometimes, when you have to make room for a new baby brother or sister, it’s important to be the focus of the camera all by yourself.  I just love Blel’s smile in this one!
